The Gaspesian British Heritage Village

The directors of this historical site in New Richmond and the members of the Board of Directors have decided to suspend their activities during the 2008 summer season.

New Richmond – This morning the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Gaspesian British Heritage Village, Mr. Mike Geraghty and the Mayor of the Town of New Richmond, Ms Nicole Appleby, jointly announced the suspension of habitual activities at the GBHV in order to give the Village directors the time necessary to make changes that have become necessary and essential for the future of the historical site based on the British heritage.

Therefore, in 2008 the directors of the Village, with the support of the Town of New Richmond, will devote their efforts to completing an evaluation of all buildings, a comprehensive evaluation of artefacts and a revision of its operating procedures. Major changes will take place in upcoming months and in the fall they will finalize a new concept, a schedule for the realization of work to be completed, a financing plan and a brand-new program, while conserving the spirit of the mission of the Village.  

According to Mr. Geraghty : « After more than twenty years, it is definitely time for the Village to review its operating methods and make changes following an important decrease in the number of visitors to the GBHV ». Ms. Nicole Appleby indicated in the joint press release that the directors of the Village could count on the support of the Town for the restoration of its assets, rigorous management and the preparation of a new concept for the historical site. The Town will assist the Village with all the aspects of the changes that the Gaspesian British Heritage Village must make to become an important cultural and tourist axis for New Richmond and the Bay of Chaleurs

This pause will allow the citizens of New Richmond and the Bay of Chaleurs to take advantage of the magnificent site at the GBHV and its walking trails, because it will be open with free admission beginning on June 24^th, from 9:00 to 17:00 and will remain open throughout the summer season. Mr. Geraghty invited all New Richmond citizens to participate in the Canada Day celebrations on July 1st, a well-established festive tradition at the Village and the Bluegrass Festival that will take place on August 29, 30 and 31, 2008. Finally, Mr. Geraghty extended a second invitation to everyone who is interested in becoming a volunteer for the Bluegrass Festival to call him at the GBHV at (418) 392-4487.

ENTENTE DE PARTENARIAT

New Richmond, lundi  le 2 juin 2008. - C’est avec un immense plaisir que madame Nicole Appleby, maire de la Ville de New Richmond, en association avec les Caisses populaires du secteur Chaleurs sont heureux de vous annoncer le renouvellement de partenariat entre la Ville de New Richmond, la Société de diffusion culturelle de la Baie-des-Chaleurs et les Caisses populaires Desjardins de Tracadièche, de Maria, de New Richmond et des Quatre-Vents.  

 

Cette nouvelle entente d’une durée de cinq ans se chiffre à un montant total de 125 000 $. Cette association permettra de maintenir les acquis de la Salle de spectacles régionale Desjardins de New Richmond et de permettre à la Société de diffusion de poursuivre son implication culturelle tant au niveau régional que national.

 

Cette entente entre les décideurs politiques municipaux et le monde économique régional est la preuve tangible d’une prise en charge du développement culturel par son milieu et fait des Caisses populaires Desjardins du secteur Chaleurs le principal commanditaire de la Salle de spectacles.
